Well today I caught the bus to Downtown LA. It was a fair ride and took well over an hour. You think there are crazy people on our buses back home well this was whole different level of crazy. The best one was this black guy who would have been at least 6’10, shaved head, wearing all white with a 1980’s tennis head band. He declared he was the black Jesus and was here to save the blacks and bring evil down on the whites (about this time I was hiding under my seat).
Having survived the black Jesus, I got off and had a wander around and met this guy;
Now this is at Union Station and he works for the County Sheriffs Dept. in Anti-Terrorism. What is hard to see is the hardware he is carrying. Mounted next to his leg sidearm is a massive Rambo knife. He has a tazer, stun grenades, baton and the usual 6,000 rounds of ammo. He basically explained that every city (suburb) has its own Police Department. The sheriff’s department covers the territory where there are gaps between the districts. For example, LAPD had jurisdiction on the lower level of the Station but not on the ground floor. Seems bloody complicated.
Given I was in the community law enforcement spirit I went over to the headquarters of the LAPD and found these parked unattended;
Check out the assault rifle fixed to the back. Obviously, there is some sort of locking system but can you imagine if that was done in Australia? Good grief.
The feeling I get from people I speak to (including the coppers) is that the LAPD is not very well liked by the lower classes but the other Police out in the Suburbs are viewed a bit better.
So, I finally get back on the bus after a wander around and head back home. No black Jesus but there was a drunk dude who was the spitting image of Denzel Washington who gave a speech to the bus about the downtrodden black man.
Fred is off the boat and just waiting for customs to clear the paperwork.
PRAISE THE BLACK JESUS!
