Vegas

June 17, 2017

Arrived in Vegas and got sorted at my Airbnb that was hosted by Carl and Suzi – Carl is a producer and worked years for Paramount and Warner Bros. His main gig was being paid to live in Paris and do 30 sec ‘grabs’ working for Entertainment Tonight. He would catch up with the stars and interview them about their current movies etc. Anyway he is a cool dude and owns 3 harleys. He took me for ride to Redrock Canyon.

On the way back we called into a ‘bikers bar’ which was located on a ranch.

The ranch had an old town set up where they do a bit of filming. The bar itself was very old school and as you can see in the photo patrons pin money up on the rafters.

Now I have travelled a lot in Asia and had to use some very dodgy toilets but this urinal takes the cake;

Just does not seem right to have to piss in a bath???

After the ride I went to get some groceries so I rode down to Walmart. The store has to be seen to be believed and is so big it has a McDonalds in it. Only downside I found was the druggy skanks in the carpark that begged for money.

The next day I went down to the South Metro Police station and swapped a patch over – what was cool was that there was a massive display of patches (500+) on the wall behind the front counter. I couldn’t see a Sapol one so now they have one! Again found them to be great to talk to.

This morning I was up a 5:00 and got going early out to the Hoover Dam – reason for so early is that its 40+ here and didn’t want to be caught up in the heat on the bike. It took about 50mins each way and really well worth it. Carl tells me the tour of the Dam is worth doing as you go inside the wall and thru the internal tunnels. Heaps of workers are buried in the concrete of the wall as work did not stop if you fell in. I never did the tour because of the time factor.

So now I am back at the house doing this blog – I am off to see the “Rat Pack” tonight which is a tribute show made up of impersonators doing Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Junior and Frank Sinatra. There are some fantastic shows on (as you would expect) but I picked this one given its my first time in Vegas. The show is at 7:30p.m. and goes for 75mins so I hope to do a bit of a ride around of the strip after. I will just leave you with a photo of what Carl suggested I wear tonight; (and yes they are the real deal);

Pump action shotgun, glock pistol and a M16 rifle. Anyone can buy a M16 – a really good one goes for about $2000 USD.

    Noel,
    We love the Rat Pack show in Vegas but it was better when Drew Anthony played Dean Martin…….I thin he has is own show there now called Dean Lives or something similar. Thanks for the blog…..keep up the good work and dont forget to pull to the right when you come out of a gas station or shopping centre parking lot. Also beware of the Walmartians!!

    Loved the blog. How much of the notes did you manage to pack away for spending money. We loved Walmart and enjoyed buying nappies next to the assault rifles. So funny.
    Keep it up Noel.

    Not sure how long you’re there for, but if you get to see Boz Scaggs in Reno next month I’m gonna’ be SERIOUSLY jealous – and if you’re drinking Cognac at the time I’ll totally hate you.
